Meat and Abortion: Two Peas in a Pod
Ihave noticed that issues dealing with veganism vs meat eating, and abortion vs no abortion are equally contentious issues. Both deal with life, something humanity is supposed to hold sacred. And yet both sides love to accuse one another of cheapening life. The vegans love to accuse the meat eaters of treating life cheaply. After all, how dare they spill the blood of an innocent animal? They don’t truly care about life! The pro-life side is more apt to say, how dare they kill a defenseless child in the womb! A baby that can’t defend itself! It comes down to this. Vegans may see animals deserving of love and respect, on equal ground with humans, whereas meat eaters may have the mentality that humans are made to eat meat and that it’s dangerous to put them on the same level as people. To the pro-choicer, unborn babies are not fully human yet, without emotions and a soul, whereas to the pro-lifers, unborn babies are very much humans, with emotions and a soul.
Interestingly enough, I’ve noticed that most pro-lifers tend to be okay with eating meat, while most vegans tend to be okay with abortion. And yet both sides believe they are preserving life. Obviously we want to think the worst of opposing sides. Pro-lifers may look at pro-choicers as baby murderers, whereas pro-choicers may see pro-lifers as hypocrites for eating meat.
