Very eloquently stated. Personally, I feel like college, particularly the American systems of higher education, are run too much like businesses rather than institutions of higher learning. As you said, it’s also a lie that learning can only be achieved in college. People will often see me reading history, philosophy, and world religion books, and they will ask me where I’m going to college or what I’m majoring in. They are surprised when I tell them that I am a college drop out and that I read for the sake of knowledge. But the simple fact of the matter is learning should be a joy, and college takes away the joy of learning with the heavy costs and the high pressure. As Mark Twain said, “I never let my schooling interfere with m education.”
